Following the death of former President Liamine Zeroual, the Algerian Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, opened a book of condolences. A large number of dignitaries visited the embassy to express their condolences and solidarity with Algeria in this time of profound grief. Among them were representatives of the high Pakistani authorities, including the Chairman of Senate, Mr. Yousaf Raza Gilani; the Minister- Special Advisor to the Prime Minister for Diplomatic Affairs, Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatmi, and the Additional Foreign Secretary for Africa, Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan. Also present were the heads of Arab, African, European, Asian, and American diplomatic missions, as well as the heads of several major media outlets and representatives of the business community (presidents of chambers of commerce and industry). The Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also sent a message of condolence.
