Minister Attaf holds talks with Rwanda’s counterpart in Kigali

Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf held bilateral talks in Kigali on Saturday with his Rwandan counterpart, Vincent Biruta, as part of his working visit to the Republic of Rwanda, according to a press release from the Ministry.

The two FMs discussed the bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Algeria and Rwanda, hailing the positive momentum that characterizes these relations under the particular interest shown by both countries’ leaders, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother President Paul Kagame. 

The two officials also agreed on a host of concrete steps to perpetuate this momentum through the activation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation and the extension of cooperation to other fields, like energy and pharmaceuticals.

Attaf and Biruta discussed at length the developments in the situation in their respective countries’ home regions, namely the Great Lakes region and the Sahel-Sahara region.

Commending the convergence of positions and viewpoints, the two top diplomats stressed the need to strengthen bilateral coordination on the challenges of peace and security, which are of great importance to both countries.

The FM’s visit to Kigali is part of his participation, in his capacity as the Personal Representative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the commemorative ceremonies marking the 30th anniversary of the genocide suffered by this sister country in 1994.
